How to Put a Picture From Your Phone Onto Twitter

Twitter is a popular micro-blogging platform. Millions of users share real-time information in succinct, 140-character increments called tweets. Information is shared instantaneously with anyone who follows your Twitter account. Only text is allowed in tweets but with text "real estate" being in such short supply, sharing links to your photographs on Twitter has strong appeal (particularly when you are not near a computer and only have your camera cell phone). Fortunately, uploading pictures from your cell phone onto Twitter is both easy and free.

Things You'll Need

  • Cell phone with a camera

Instructions

  1. Sending a Photo from your Phone

    • 1

Obtain a cellular phone plan with the capability to send picture messages. Not all standard voice plans allow you to send picture messages. Contact your service provider to make sure that your plan includes that capability. You might need to upgrade or change your plan accordingly.

Send your pictures directly to a site that allows you to upload them on a server, a photo host. There are at least a dozen sites that will allow you to do so and each site has its own unique features. All of the sites work essentially the same way: you send them a picture message and they automatically post a link to your Twitter account. The easiest of these sites includes Twitpic, com, Yfrog, com and Tweetphoto.com. Accounts on all of these services are free. Choose the one that best suits your needs.

    • 3

Register for a free account. When you register, you will receive a unique email to which you can send picture messages. When you send a photo to this email address, the server will download the picture, upload it onto itself, and post a link to your Twitter account. Store this email address in your contacts for quick access. Save the email with your account information in a safe place.

    • 4

Log into your photo hosting account. Specify your Twitter account in your profile. The photo hosting site will likely try to connect directly to the Twitter servers and log you in. Follow the steps carefully to allow access to your account so that your photo host can send your pictures to the right Twitter.

    • 5

Take a photograph with your cell phone. Send it as a picture message to the special email address provided by the photo host. Within a few seconds to a few minutes, your photo should be posted both to your photo host and to your Twitter account.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can customize the rest of your tweet by adding a caption to your photo. Typically, the caption will be the same as the subject line of your picture message.

  • Do not share your unique photo host email address with anyone. Any photo sent to this email address will get posted onto your Twitter.
