How to Make Your Own Fake Decorative Dice
When it came to the hot rods of the 1950s, the ultimate accessory was a pair of fuzzy dice hanging from the rear-view mirror. The basics were black and white, but they could be found in custom colors to match the car's paint job. There are fuzzy dice to purchase now, but making your own is a fast and easy craft project. You can make them in any color to match your car or bedroom decor, and they're simple enough for kids to craft for a funky decoration of their own.
Things You'll Need
- Styrofoam cubes
- Ruler
- Fuzzy fur fabric
- Felt in a color that contrasts with the fur color
- Scissors
- Nickle or dime
- Craft glue
- Nylon braided cording
Instructions

1
Cut the cording to a length of 12 inches. Glue one end of the cording to a corner on one of the Styrofoam cubes and the other end of the cording to a corner on the other cube. Allow the glue to dry.
-
2
Measure the length and width of one surface of the cube. Cut out 12 squares of fuzzy fabric, each the same size. Make sure that all of the squares match.
-
-
3
Use craft glue to glue the fuzzy fabric squares onto the surfaces of the Styrofoam cubes. Take care to align the edges of the fabric so that all of the Styrofoam is covered. Allow the glue to dry.
-
4
Cut 42 circles out of felt. Trace the circles around a nickle or dime first to make sure that all of your circles are even.
-
5
Glue the circles onto the fur surfaces of each cube. Each cube should have a surface with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 dots. If you want the dots to be in the correct place for real dice, place the spots so that opposite sides add up to 7. For instance, if 1 is at the top, then 6 will be on the bottom, and so on.
