How to Send an Attachment on Outlook Express

Email is a near-perfect medium for sending small files to others, because the recipients do not need to be online when you send the files, as would be necessary when sending files with an Instant Messenger program. If you are an Outlook Express user, you might be wondering how you can use your email program to send files to your friends and family. In email, files are sent via a system called "attachments." Use Outlook Express to attach files to an email and send them to your contacts.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Outlook Express and click the "Create Mail" button to begin composing a new message.

    • 2

Click the "Insert" menu at the top of the email window, then click "File Attachment."

    • 3

Browse to the location of the file you would like to attach by clicking the folder-shaped icon with a green arrow to move up a folder level, or by double-clicking a folder in the main area of the window to navigate to it. Double-click on a file to attach it to the message.

    • 4

Type and send the email as normal. The file that you attached will be sent to the recipient.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be mindful of file sizes when sending email attachments. Free email services often place limits on the volume of data that can be received, and if you send very large files, some of the recipients might not receive them.
