How to Add Scent to a Candle
Scented candles can bring a warm, cozy feeling to your home, but many store-bought scented candles start to lose their scent as you burn them, or they just don't fill the room with fragrance from the beginning. You can add scent to a store-bought candle or make your own candles and add your favorite fragrance to keep your candles smelling fabulous until the last pool of wax.
Instructions
-
-
1
Purchase fragrance oil made for candles in the scent of your choice from your local craft store or superstore. Most fragrance oils will not change the color or texture of your candle.
-
2
Light the candle you wish to scent and let it burn for a few minutes. Then put it out.
-
-
3
Add a few drops of the fragrance oil to the molten pool of wax in the center of your candle. The oil will absorb into the wax when it cools, which will give your candle a fresh burst of scent when you burn it again.
-
4
Add two to three more drops of oil every time you blow your candle out to keep the scent fresh all the way to the end of your candle.
-
5
Add 1 oz. of fragrance oil for every pound of wax you use when melting the wax to make your own scented candles. Experiment with adding more if you desire a stronger scent, but only add a few drops at a time so that your candle isn't overpowering.

Tips & Warnings
Use some of your fragrance oil on potpourri or in a reed diffuser to keep the aroma in your home even when you aren't burning your candle.
Always purchase fragrance oils made specifically for use in candles. While some essential oils are safe to use in candles, some can create fire hazards or unpleasant smells.
Never add fragrance oil to a lit candle.

We use scented candles a lot, in our business. One additional tip - we always use the best scents we can find - which often cost us more - but, the fragrance lasts a lot longer than some of the less expensive ones. Good info, here! -

I truly loved this article. It not only showed you how to make a scented candle, but how to add fragrance to an existing one as well. Very well written and steps are easy to follow. Thank you for the info. I loved to give them as gifts but now I can put my own twist to them myself! -
