How to Negotiate Your Salary Package Successfully
When being offered a new job, or switching positions after years of service in a company, you may have an opportunity to negotiate a new salary package with your employer. Negotiating a new salary package can be complicated and stressful. It is hard to know when you are going too far, when you are not going far enough, and when to know when the best offer has been made. There are a variety of techniques and ways of presenting yourself that will help make your salary offer a viable option to your new or current employer.

1
Research the job market and the employer that will make the offer to you before hearing a salary range. Know how badly the employer needs to fill the position, how your skills rate in the job market and whether anyone else is up for the role.
-
2
Prepare a list of possible salary options and benefit packages to negotiate the salary with. Establish a bottom figure for acceptable salary as well as a realistic top range. Write down responses to possible objections the employer may have.

-
3
Respond to a salary offer by first repeating the offer amount then go silent to show you are thinking about the offer seriously. Make a counter offer when the amount is not to your satisfaction.
-
4
Ask the employer for salary range that shows you know the job market and what is expected.
-
5
Make examples of your experience or contributions to the company that warrant the salary requested. Present reasons why the company will benefit by paying you the salary you want.
-
6
Present the benefits you expect, adding more if the salary does not reach your expectations.
