How do I Fix the Navigation to a Webpage Cancelled on a Dell Laptop Computer?

By Erin McManaway

When you receive the message "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" on your Dell laptop's Internet browser, this is usually because Internet Explorer is switching between Internet security settings. This is a known bug in the program that you can temporarily work around by shutting off your browser's "Protected Mode" settings. You will need to download and install the newest Windows Updates in order to completely fix the issue.

Step 1

Click the "Start" button and type "Internet Options" in the text box on the start menu.

Step 2

Choose "Internet Options" from the programs listed in the search results.

Step 3

Navigate to the "Security" tab and click "Trusted Sites."

Step 4

Remove the mark in the box next to "Enable Protected Mode," then click the "OK" button.

Step 5

Close Internet Explorer to allow the changes to take place. This will temporarily disable the "Protected Mode" settings until you can download the Windows Updates.

Step 6

Click the "Start" button and choose "All Programs" from the start menu.

Step 7

Click "Windows Update" to launch the Windows Updates window.

Step 8

Click "Install Updates" to allow Windows to install the newest updates for your computer. This may require a reboot.

Step 9

Repeat the steps above to return to the "Internet Options" window and place the check mark in the box next to "Enable Protected Mode." This will turn "Protected Mode" on again. Once you have installed the updated fixes, you should not receive any more canceled-web-page errors on your Dell laptop.
