1
Take one sheet of paper to make the warp, or strips, that you weave in and out of.
-
2
Cut the paper to the size and shape that you would like your finished weaving to be. Make it at least 5 inches wide and long for ease of weaving.
-
-
3
Make your first cut 3/4 of an inch in from the left-hand side of the paper and 3/4 of an inch up from the bottom. Cut in a straight line until you are 3/4 of an inch from the top. Use a ruler to help guide your lines.
-
4
Cut slits about 1/2 inch apart all the way across until you are 3/4 of an inch from the right-hand edge. Aim for an even number of slits.
-
5
Choose the paper that you will use for the weft, or weaving strips. Choose a different color for contrast and easier weaving.
-
6
Cut the paper into strips about 1/2 inch wide and just a little longer than your warp sheet so you can pull it through all the way to the ends.
-
7
Take one strip and slide it over the edge of the warp and under the first slit, then over the warp again and under the next slit. Continue in this pattern until you reach the opposite edge. Slide the strip all the way up to the top of the warp.
-
8
Send the second strip under the edge of the warp, then over the first slit, then under the warp and over the next slit, continuing across to the edge.
-
9
Weave strips in this alternating pattern to achieve a checkerboard pattern.
