How to Give Your House a Beach House Theme

Whether you are looking to decorate your summer home or year round home with the beach house theme, these ideas will really bring the beach house design to your space.

1. Bring the indoors out when decorating a beach house. You may want to incorporate home accents such as pelicans, lobsters, crabs, fish, anchors, sailboats, seashells and other favorite aspects of the beach.

2. Bedroom decorating should not be overlooked. Beach house bedding is typically nautical or a pastel but don't limit yourself to those choices. If you have accented your home with prints of lobsters and crabs you may prefer to use a solid red bedding.

3. Lighting fixtures can also be decorative. Look for anchor lamps, fish chandeliers and other nautical lighting.

4. Welcome mats and small area rugs are a perfect place to reflect your beach theme.

5. Strategically placed beach signs will speak for your home. A beach house plaque may read something like, Life is a beach. Watch out for the crabs! Beach signs may also be as simple as a sign that reads, beach house. Be expressive and original as you wish to be.

6. Kitchen decor can be fun and whimsical. Perhaps adding fish dinnerware and fish salt and pepper shakers is what you need or maybe something bigger like a taxidermy swordfish hung up on the wall. Whatever you decide, the kitchen is a perfect place to decorate with the beach theme.

7. Photographs of the beach either with or without people will really bring in the beach and will personalize your space.

8. Scent the house with either scented candles or essential oils. Coconut scented candles or oils may remind you and others of suntan oil or the tropics. Perhaps a lime scented candle is what you are looking for to you remind yourself of frozen margaritas. Choosing a sent should be simple. When sampling your beach scented candles, close your eyes and see if the scent brings your mind to the beach.
