How to Become a Live Auction Auctioneer
I have always enjoyed live auctions of all types. I love the cadence of an auctioneers voice and the drama of the bidding. Recently I looked into what it would take to become an auctioneer. I attend antique auctions and also real estate auctions often. Here is what I found.

1
You must obtain a state professional license. My state as well as most others license auctioneers as they deal with public trust. They often hold consigned items securely and the auction company holds and disperses money. Look into your state and local license requirements.

2
Look up the National Auctioneers Association. They have a web site and are the association professionals join to learn and improve the business. They have audio files to listen to auctioneers and practice.

Attend auctions often. Live auctions are a great place to learn. Talk to the auctioneer and support staff after if possible. Se if they have opening to work with them.

4
Take courses that will help in the trade. University training is not uncommon. Business classes, public speaking classes, choir and voice lessons as well as marketing help. Also learn the field you want to work in. It may be antiques, livestock, real estate or surplus. Many auctioneers specialize in one unique area and get to know buyers and sellers in that auction setting.

Exercise your vocal cords. practice the auctioneers "song". get a feel for running an auction. Maybe volunteer for a church charity auction if it is allowed under local rules and you are not paid without being licensed. Learn the business.
