As the number of eReaders increases, you may acquire documents in different eBook formats, including ePub, Mobi and Lit. You may wish to convert an eBook to a simple Text file due to compatibility issues or for simplicity. To do this, you will need to download Calibre, a free, open-source eBook manager. Calibre works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
Download and install Calibre. There is a link in the Resources section.
Open Calibre. Specify a directory for your eBook library. Click "Next." Click "Finish."
Click "Add Books."
Navigate to the directory that contains the eBook you wish to convert. Highlight it and click "Open."
Highlight the eBook you wish to convert to Text format. Click "Convert E-books."
Choose "TXT" as the "Output Format" in the upper-right corner of the "Convert" window. Click "OK."
Tips & Warnings
- Calibre automatically saves your converted documents to the directory that contains the original eBook.
- You can convert more than one eBook at once by highlighting each eBook you wish to convert, then clicking the arrow next to "Convert E-Books." Select "Bulk Convert." Choose "TXT" as your "Output Format" in the "Convert" window.
- If your eBook features DRM (Digital Rights Management), it is a protected file and cannot be converted to another format.
