How to Convert Word Documents to a JPEG File Online

After opening a Microsoft Word document, the user simply has to use Word's zoom feature to allow the document to fill the screen without excluding any important parts of the document. The user simply captures a screenshot of the Word Document, and is then able to convert this screenshot to a JPEG format in an image editing application such as Microsoft Paint or Adobe Photoshop. Before conversion, cropping can also be performed in the image-editing application. Windows Vista users have an even simpler protocol to perform the same task.

Things You'll Need

  • Microsoft Word
  • Image-editing software such as Microsoft Paint or Adobe Photoshop

Instructions

  1. Protocol for Windows XP or Older Version

    • 1

Open the desired document in Microsoft Word and use Word's Zoom function under the View menu to fit the entire document's page to the screen. Make sure the entire page can be seen without having to scroll.

    • 2

Locate the "Print Screen" key on the keyboard. It is generally found somewhere at the top-right of the keyboard, usually as one of the nine keys around the directional arrow keys. Press the "Print Screen" key once.

    • 3

Open an image-editing program such as Microsoft Paint or Adobe Photoshop. Click on the Edit menu and select "Paste" to insert the captured screen image into the program.

    • 4

Use a cropping tool (the "Select" tool in Paint or the "Crop" tool in Photoshop) to crop the image of the document by removing the unwanted area around the document itself.

    • 5

Save this cropped image in the image-editing software. When selecting which file format to save the image as, select "JPEG (.jpg)."

    Protocol for Windows Vista

    • 6

After opening the Microsoft Word document and zooming in/out to the appropriate size, go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Snipping Tool.

    • 7

Click on a corner of your Word document, then drag the cursor to make an appropriately sized box around the entire document.

    • 8

As before, be sure to save the file in a JPEG (.jpg) format.

Tips & Warnings

  • After pressing the "Print Screen" key to take a snapshot of your document, there will be no kind of confirmation that the image capture was successful. Simply select "Edit" and "Paste" in an image-editing program to check that the image capture indeed worked.
