How to Put the Top Down in a Mitsubishi Spyder

The Mitsubishi Spyder (formally known as the Eclipse Spyder) is a soft-top convertible version of the Eclipse sports-coupe. Like many other convertibles, the Spyder is equipped with a power-operated convertible top. The power top makes putting the top down simple and fast. According to Mitsubishi, going "topless" takes approximately 20 seconds.

Instructions

1. Put your gear selector in "Park" and engage the e-brake lever. The ignition must be turned on or the engine running.

2. Release the convertible top handles. There is one handle on each side, next to the sun visors. Pull the handles towards you to release the convertible top latches.

3. Make sure the window lock feature is turned off. The windows automatically roll down during the top lowering initiation. The window lock may interfere. Press the "X" button on your door control panel if the feature is turned on.

4. Press and hold the "Top Down" button, located to the right of your gear shift selector. Hold the button until the rear tonneau cover closes on top of the folding convertible top. The process takes approximately 20 seconds.

Tips & Warnings

• To put the top up, repeat the entire procedure. After putting the top up, close the overhead convertible top handles to secure the top.

• The Eclipse Spyder gets its name not from the arachnid, but from a term used around the world. "Spyder" is often used outside of America to refer to convertible vehicles; several other manufacturers, including Lamborghini and Toyota, have used the moniker in the past.
