How to Troubleshoot a Leap Frog ClickStart

The Leap Frog ClickStart computer system allows your preschooler to learn basic computer and school readiness skills in an age-appropriate format. Although it's much simpler to use by comparison than your own PC, you may run into some difficulties along the way when using your child's first computer system. One of the most commonly reported issues involves communication between the keyboard and console. Should any problems arise, you can easily master troubleshooting your child's Leap Frog ClickStart computer with some basic guidelines to point you in the right direction.

Instructions

    • 1

Check for basic problems that may be present with your Leap Frog ClickStart computer. These problems may include a need for new batteries, or the batteries aren't properly installed, improperly connected video and audio cables, full and correct insertion of game cartridges, or the console power light is not on.

    • 2

Inspect the cord that connects the ClickStart mouse to the keyboard to ensure it is properly secured. Look for any signs of damage or wear and tear that may cause interference between the console and the keyboard.

    • 3

Locate the reset button located on the bottom left side of the ClickStart computer keyboard. Solve many common communication problems between the keyboard and console by using the reset button.

    • 4

Press the reset button with the straight end of a paper clip or a straight pin. Hold it down until you see the red light on the bottom of the mouse turn off and turn back on.

    • 5

Remove the batteries to both the console and the keyboard if pressing the reset button does not produce the desired result in functioning. This often resets the system and restores normal function. Check that the battery contacts are free from dirt, and clean with a soft, clean cloth, if necessary.

Call customer support if all these efforts fail to get your Leap Frog ClickStart functioning properly. You can find support online or by calling (800) 701-LEAP (5327) during normal business hours.
