How to Make Scratched Games Work
CDs and DVDs are a convenient way to store video game information. They have a larger capacity and are easier to use than cartridges or floppy disks were. However, they're also easier to damage. Most of us will end up with a scratched game disk at one point or another. Many retailers and disk repair companies will fix your games for a fee. However, there's one fix you can do at home, without any special products.
Instructions

1
Clean the disk with a soft cloth and water to remove dust and debris. This fixes some disks without the need for additional repair.
-
2
Squeeze a small amount of white toothpaste onto the readable surface of the disk. Rub it onto the disk surface from the inside edge of the disk to the outside edge. Cover the whole disc this way. Do not rub back and forth.

-
3
Put the disk aside and allow the toothpaste to sit for five minutes or so.
-
4
Wash the toothpaste off using warm water.
-
5
Allow the disk to air dry, then wipe it gently with a soft cloth. You should see fewer scratches than before. Toothpaste is a mild abrasive and smooths the plastic around the scratches, making it easier to read the disc.
-
6
Test the disk. If it's still too scratched to play, repeat the polishing process.
