How to Create an Eye Inspired by Taylor Swift's "Teardrops On My Guitar"

Singer Taylor Swift wears a shimmering pearl-white eye in her video for "Teardrops On My Guitar." This particular look serves as a twist on her makeup in the video and uses more shimmer to create soft glimmers as the light hits the eye. Platinum eyeshadow and dark eyeliner combine to create a wearable eye for evening events. Any skin color, eye color or hair color can wear this look. Neutral-colored clothing options work best for this look since the shimmer and dark outline around the eyelid can appear dramatic. Applying a tinted moisturizer to cover blemishes before starting the eye makeup will help the eyes standout better. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pat eye primer onto the eyelids with your fingers. Eye primer comes in a cream or gel form that prevents the creasing and fading of eye makeup.

    • 2

Apply a pearlized platinum eyeshadow to the entire eyelid using a shadow brush.

    • 3

Pat a shimmering white eyeshadow over the platinum on the entire eyelid with the shadow brush. Do not allow the white to drift into the crease at this point.

    • 4

Use a crease brush to apply a dark charcoal eyeshadow to the outer area of the eyelid. Pull the dark charcoal in toward the crease with firm strokes.

    • 5

Use the opposite side of the crease brush to gently blend the platinum and white shadows until they appear soft. To blend without making a mess, simply sweep the crease brush back and forth across the eyelid. Start at the inner corner and work your way outward.

Apply black eyeliner to the entire upper tight-line and the outer third of the lower lash line. Your tight-line falls just under the upper eyelashes. It is a fleshy area so applying eyeliner in that area may feel awkward, but it won't hurt.

Apply a black mascara to the upper eyelashes and the lower outer eyelashes. Wiggle the wand as you comb through the lashes to prevent clumping.
