How to Store Pearls
Whether you have freshwater or saltwater pearls, the care and storage of these beautiful gems remains the same. Because pearls have an organic structure, they have a fragile outer surface that you must take care to protect. Never store pearls with other jewelry because this will lead to scratches and scuffs that will mar the surface of the pearls. By storing your pearls carefully and separately, you will ensure their lasting beauty. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings
Inquire about special pearl folders from your jeweler. These folders have a satin lining and special snaps that will hold pearl jewelry securely in place in the envelope.
Do not place pearl jewelry into any type of plastic bag. Plastic may expose pearls to a harmful chemical that can damage the outer surfaces of the gems.
Never store pearls in any type of safety deposit box or safe. The dry conditions in airtight storage spaces can create crazing on the surface of pearls. Crazing looks like tiny lines all over the surface of the pearls.
