How to Crochet With Cashmere Yarn
Cashmere and cashmere blend yarns are a crocheter's dream material. They provide a variety of options for finishing projects, and are smooth and soft to work with. Crocheters with a little extra money to spend on yarn will be rewarded with a truly extravagant garment if they choose to crochet with cashmere. If you want to crochet with cashmere yarn, choose a hook and a project worthy of a skein of pure luxury.

1
Choose a hook that fits your yarn. Cashmere yarns come in a variety of weights, though most are going to be worsted or aran weight. Check the yarn label for a hook size recommendation, and crochet a gauge swatch or two to find a hook that gives you the desired size and drape for your stitches.

Find a pattern that matches your yardage. Cashmere yarn is extremely expensive, so in most cases you will probably only have one or two skeins of it at a time. This will leave you with approximately 200 yards or fewer to work with. There are an abundance of one-skein or small-quantity crochet patterns available if you know where to look. Try Leigh Radford's book, "One Skein," which contains 30 patterns to knit or crochet from only one skein of yarn. Or use Ravelry.com's pattern search feature, where you can search by the number of yards and the weight of the yarn you have.

Crochet your project using your luxurious yarn, and then take care to block it when finished. Blocking your finished project will keep it in the size and shape you want it to have; simply soak the yarn in water mixed with wool wash or light detergent, then gently squeeze dry and lay flat. Pin it to a blocking board, ironing board, or other soft surface and let it dry. Then you can take out the pins and it will hold its shape.

Wash your finished item. Since your finished project is crocheted from cashmere, you will have to take extra care when washing it. Hand wash using gentle detergent soap or wool wash, and lay flat to dry, re-blocking as needed. Never put your item in the washing machine, or it could be ruined.
