How to Change Language Dictionary in Outlook Express

If Microsoft Word is installed on a computer, Outlook Express automatically uses the Word dictionary as a spell checker when you compose messages. By default, the dictionary used will be the same as the default language used in Windows. However, this may not be desired if you are typing a message in a different language. Change the spell check dictionary in Outlook Express to check your spelling using a different language.

Instructions

1. Launch Outlook Express. Browse to the "Tools" menu at the top of the screen, then click "Options."

2. Click the "Spelling" tab.

3. Click the drop-down menu labeled "Language" at the bottom of the window. Select the language that you would like to use by locating it on the list and clicking it.

4. Click "OK." The selected language will now be used when Outlook Express checks the spelling in the messages that you compose.

Tips & Warnings

• Microsoft is aware of an issue that causes Outlook Express to lose the ability to check spelling in English after Office 2007 is installed. To rectify this issue, Microsoft recommends installing the Windows Live Mail email client program.
