How to Disable Buddy Icons on Pidgin

Pidgin is instant messaging software that allows you to access and log in to multiple chat networks, such as MSN, Yahoo and Google Talk, from a single chat program. Pidgin has several features that are compatible with other instant messaging programs and software. One feature is the ability to use buddy icons and view buddy icons for friends on your chat list. In some cases, you may want to disable the buddy icons and hide them. Doing so can reduce the impact the software has visually on your desktop by taking up less space.

Instructions

      Open Pidgin on your computer. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Preferences."

      Click the "Conversations" tab on the left side of the "Preferences" panel. Click to remove the check mark next to "Show Detailed Information."

      Click "Close" to apply the new setting and hide the buddy icons from the chat interface.

      Click "Buddies" from the Pidgin menu and select "Show" to expand the menu options. Click "Buddy Details" to remove buddy icons from your friends list.
