A kite is a foursided figure that consists of two pairs of congruent sides with diagonals that always intersect at 90degree angles. A kite can be divided into two triangles, and by using algebra, you can prove the area equals onehalf the length times the width. To calculate the area of a kite, you need to know the length and the width of the kite.

Measure the distance from the top of the kite to the bottom at the longest point.

Measure the width of the kite at the widest point.

Multiply the length by the width. For example, if the kite was 14 inches long and 8 inches wide, you would get 112.

Divide the result from Step 3 by two to calculate the area, or square inches, of the kite. For example, divide 112 by two to find that the area of the example kite equals 56 square inches.
