However, not all scratches are created equal.

Dip a clean cloth in vinegar and wipe down the stove top surface to remove bits of food and splattered liquids. This can be done daily to reduce stubborn stains and the buildup of grease and grime on the cooktop.

Stubborn Stain Removal

Baked-on globs of grease or food may need a bit more elbow grease and patience. A plastic spatula held at a 45-degree angle can be used as a scraper to safely remove burnt-on food or pools of liquid, according to Molly Maid.

Cover the cooktop surface with a light sprinkling of baking soda and place a hot, damp towel over it. Let this sit for 15 minutes to loosen any food bits, pools of grease or hardened liquids. Gather the cooled towel up beginning with the outside edges and push all of the debris into a pile beneath the cloth. Scoop up the detritus and wipe the surface clean with a towel. The baking soda has the added benefit of being mildly abrasive enough to remove the smallest of scratches that can occur on the glass cooktop.

Attending to Minor Scratches

If small scratches still appear on the glass cooktop after cleaning it, you can use common cleaning detergents to buff out these minor imperfections. Make a paste by mixing 2 teaspoons of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of warm water. Gently rub this into dull areas or visible scratches with a damp towel in small circular motions.

Let the baking soda sit for five to 15 minutes before gently buffing out the areas. This process may not completely remove the scratches or dullness from the glass stove top, but it should make them much less visible.

Glass Stove Top Deep Scratch Repair

A deep scratch in a glass cooktop can be worrisome. A significant gouge or divot can be addressed, but typically, it won't be completely removed.

A glass stove top deep scratch repair can be done if the structure of the appliance isn't in any way compromised. Glass Doctor recommends calling a professional to repair or replace a glass cooktop if the scratches are directly over the heating element. Cracks that are wider than a penny or can't otherwise be buffed out likely mean that the entire cooktop should be replaced.

Avoiding Scratches and Damage

To prevent scratches from happening, make sure that the bottom of the pots and pans you're using are clean and free of debris. Avoid the temptation to slide pots and pans across the glass stove top.
