How to Make a Matchbox Calendar
Use empty matchboxes to create your own advent calendar for every month of the year. Just because it is not December does not mean you should not enjoy a treat each day. Fill the boxes with inspirational quotes, a small piece of wrapped candy or even a coin or two. Decorate each calendar with patterned paper and paint to match the season, month or any theme you like.

1
Position the matchboxes into three stacks. If you are making an advent calendar for Christmas, you will need 24 matchboxes and will position them in three stacks of eight. If your calendar will be for a standard full month, you'll need enough matchboxes for each day of the month. Place the odd number box (if there is one) on top of the three stacks in the center.
-
2
Glue each of the matchboxes together and then glue each stack together using liquid glue.
-
-
3
Cut a long strip of paper. Wrap the paper around the outside edge of the stacks.
-
4
Write the days on the front of each matchbox slide-out tray. Turn the stacks around and paint a large picture on the back. Make the picture match the theme of the month. Allow the paint to dry.
-
5
Remove the matchbox slide-out trays. Cut a square or rectangle of paper large enough to cover the back of the stacks. Glue around the edges of the shape and adhere it to the back of the stack.
-
6
Glue a small scrap of ribbon to the bottom of each matchbox tray to create a pull tab and then place them back in to the stacks in consecutive order.
-
7
Fill the matchbox trays with small treats for each day. At the end of each day, turn the matchbox tray around so that a piece of the painted picture is showing.
