How to Update Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone claims to be the leading language-learning software system in the world. Used in more than 150 countries, the software program includes options to learn more than 30 languages. Rosetta Stone is compatible for Windows and Macintosh users. Like most programs, Rosetta Stone occasionally needs to be updated. These updates are available through Rosetta Stone’s website.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet Connection
  • Rosetta Stone software
  • Access Rosetta Stone’s website at

  • Click on the link for “Support,” written in green on the upper right-hand part of the screen.

  • Select “Personal” from the drop-down menu.

  • Click the blue “Learn More” link under the heading “Online Support and Requests.” This is the first heading on the page.

  • Scroll down to the heading that reads “Most Popular Topics.” Click on the link for question No. 2: “What steps should I try if I am having difficulty downloading or installing the 3.4.5 update for Version 3 (CD-ROM)?”

  • Scroll down to the heading that reads “To manually update Rosetta Stone Version 3.” Choose the required download, for either Windows or Mac, depending on your computer. Allow that file to download.

  • Make sure the Rosetta Stone program is not running on your computer. If you are a Windows user, you will need to delete any desktop icons linking to Version 3; to delete, right click on the icons and select "Delete." Click either "Yes" or "Delete Shortcut" when prompted to confirm deletion. Mac users will not need to delete these icons.

  • Double click on the file you just downloaded to start the installer. The installer will begin to run; wait until the installer is finished to continue.

  • Open Rosetta Stone to confirm the installation was complete. Mac users can just click on the shortcut icons for Version 3. For Windows users, click the Start menu and select "All Programs." Choose the Rosetta Stone folder and select Rosetta Stone Version 3. Click the blue icon to open.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may be asked to restart your computer after the installation is complete, depending on your operating system. If you are prompted to restart, do so to make sure the download is complete.
