Instructions

    • 1

Locate the rafters using a stud finder and mark each spot with chalk as you go. For safety, have a buddy on hand (he can hold the ladder, etc.) at all times.

    • 2

Align the solar panel mounts along the rafters. Use a laser level to align the flush mounts.

    • 3

To ensure your rafters don't split, drill the entry holes using a pilot bit.

    • 4

Use the lag bolts to anchor the flush mounts to the roof rafters. Allow 2 to 4 inches for air circulation between the solar panels and the roof. This helps keep the panels cool.

    • 5

Put a metal flashing over each mount.

    • 6

Attach the metal rails to the mounts with the 3/8-inch stainless steel bolts.

    • 7

Snap or slid into place the solar panels onto the rails and mounts system. Check your manufacturer's information to learn if yours snap or slides into the housing architecture.

    • 8

Your electrician can connect the panels into an array, and the array to the inverter. He can also complete the AC and DC connect, as well as install the new breaker.

Tips & Warnings

  • If possible, install the panels while roofing or re-roofing the house. It's easier to locate the rafters.
