How to Apply Suction Cups
Suction cups are an all-purpose tool used in the house for hanging items. These rubber circular items can be stuck to basically any flat, smooth surface where air can be pressurized to keep it in place. Apply these little things correctly and you can organize your bathroom, tool bench, or kitchen windows--with one press of your hand. Stick them on incorrectly and the suction cup is bound to slip and drop whatever objects you're trying to hang. Installing a suction cup right is key to keeping your things from breaking. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Select the right surface for a suction cup to stick without slipping. Make sure that it is a smooth and non-bumpy surface and preferably made of glass or glazed wood. Spray this surface with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe it off well until the area shines.
-
2
Touch the surface to judge how moist it is. Wipe this region off with a hand towel to keep the area completely dry. Remove all possible sources of liquid falling to this surface, like a leaky houseplant where water could filter out of the water holes and into the area.

3
Clean off each suction cup completely so that there is no residue or debris. Hold it under running water so that the water streams over the inside and outside of the cup. You may even need to wash it if it's extremely dirty. Dab it with dish washing detergent and wash, or wipe it fully down with an all-purpose cleaner. Make sure your suction cup is dry for use.
-
4
Press the suction cups down on your preferred surface. You will have to use some upper-body strength and finger muscles to press the cup down hard. Don't let air get trapped in the inside portion of the suction cup. Flatten it down as much as it will go.
-
5
Release the suction cup to make the vacuum. The small amount of trapped air inside and the atmosphere outside will create a balanced and pressurized effect. Once this happens, the suction cup is ready to use. Push it in one more time just to guarantee the suction has been created. Test the suction cups out by by lightly tugging on them.
