How to Use Metal Foils in Fused Glass
Using metal foils in fused glass projects will add another dimension in your fused glass designs. Foils come in silver, gold and copper. The best size foil to use when fusing is a thin foil that does not have an adhesive backing. Sheets that are too thick can break the glass. Knowledge of working with glass and a kiln is required.

1
Choose the glass of your choice. You will need two pieces of glass. Pick a piece of color glass for your base glass. This will be the glass that you will put your foil on. The other piece of glass will be your top glass, and this should be clear glass.
-
2
Put on your safety glasses and cut your glass in the shape you want your project to be. Both pieces of glass need to be the same shape and same dimensions.
-
-
3
Cut a design out of your foil using your shears. This can be any design you choose and can be more than one, like a maple leaf with a stem.
-
4
Decide where you want to place your design on your base color. You can use a little white glue to hold your design in place.
-
5
Place your clear glass on top of your base glass with the design.
-
6
Prepare your kiln shelf.
Place your fiber paper on the shelf. Fiber paper will keep your glass from adhering to the shelf. Make sure the fiber paper is larger than your object and extends from the edge of your project.
-
7
Place your project on the shelf and fire the kiln.
-
8
Let the glass and kiln cool down. Once the kiln has reached room temperature, remove your project.
