Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the room you are dividing, using the tape measure.

    • 2

Purchase drapes to match the width of the wall. For a wide room, two full sets of wide-window drapes may suffice. Use your best judgement when purchasing the drapes according to your measurements.

    • 3

Anchor a wall hook on each wall opposite from each other, making sure to put each hook up close to the ceiling.

    • 4

Measure a length of heavy duty string equal to the measurement of the width of the room, and then double it. For example, if your room is 12 feet wide, cut a 24-foot length of string.

    • 5

Match the ends of the string together, and tie them together into a double knot. Make sure the knot is tight enough to bare the weight of the drapery. This will make the string a circle.

    • 6

Grasp the knot of the string with your thumb and forefinger, and then grab the opposite side of the circle with your other thumb and forefinger as you stretch the string together. The end result will be a double rowed string measuring back to 12 feet in length.

    • 7

Loop the knotted end of the string over one of the hooks on the wall.

    • 8

Feed the other end of the looped string through the top loops of the drapes, where a curtain rod ordinarily goes. Once you have slid the looped string through the drapes, loop the end of the string over the hook on the opposite wall.

    • 9

Make the drapes sturdy by knotting the looped ends of the string two or three times each around each hook. You can slide the drapes open and closed depending on the level of privacy needed.
