The Internet has been both a blessing and a burden to music artists. Websites such as YouTube have allowed artists to reach an audience of millions, but they've reaped few rewards financially. If you're an up-and-coming artist or just someone with a blog, you probably want to find a way to get your music out there; uploading a song as an MP3 for anyone to download is a great way to gain traction.

Go to Mediafire.com. You can find a link to MediaFire in the References section below. Click the bright-green "Upload to MediaFire" button on the main page.

Select the file you wish to upload by clicking on the pop-up menu. Locate the MP3 on your hard drive and select "Open." Your file will now appear in the "File Name" box.

Click "Begin Uploading Files." Depending on your MP3 file size and Internet connection speed, this could take from less than a minute to up to an hour. The blue bar tracks the progress of the upload. This will show a "Copy Link" option, next to the "Share" option.

Copy and paste the link (see above screenshot in the red box) that MediaFire provides upon completing the upload. You can use this link on your blog or website to share your MP3 file with your friends or readers. By clicking the link, users will be brought to the MediaFire website and will be able to download the MP3 for free.

Tips

Upload your MP3 file on a fast connection; the process can be a slog if you choose to do it on a dial-up modem.

Warnings

Distribute only MP3s of your own music or music that's in the public domain. If you spread copyrighted music online, you might find yourself on the wrong end of a lawsuit.
