How to Hook Up an Xbox System to a TV

Getting your new Xbox system connected to your TV is a quick and easy process, and you should be up and running in just a few minutes. While the newer Xbox 360 systems have more options for TV connections, including HDMI connectors for hooking up to a HDTV, all of the Xbox systems still come with the standard component connections which can be used on any TV, so that is what we will examine here.

Things You'll Need

  • Component connector cable
  • Connect the component cable to your Xbox system. There will be a specific port for this on the back of the console, and that will be the only place where the cable connector will fit. On the cable itself, you are connecting the end with the single connector. The end with three plugs, which are red, white and yellow, is for connecting to the TV.

  • Connect the component cable to the component connectors on the TV. Some TV's are built with connectors on the front or side specifically for easy access when connecting game systems. For others, you will need to access the back of the TV to find these connectors. The connectors will be color coded the same as the cable ends. Red and white are audio connections, and yellow is the video connection. If labeled, take note of the TV channel or input number for the connector you are plugging into.

  • Turn on your Xbox system and TV. Navigate to the correct input or TV channel.
