How to Connect to a Proxy Server With FoxyProxy on a Mac

Proxy servers are computers or computer applications that act as intermediaries between computers or a computer and the Internet. Most people use proxy servers to protect themselves while surfing the Internet, as proxy servers allow users to be totally anonymous online. FoxyProxy is a Firefox, Thunderbird, Seamonkey and Songbird plug-in that allows Firefox users to use proxy servers.

      Open Firefox on your Mac by double-clicking on its icon.

      Download FoxyProxy (see Resources below). Select the "Newest Release" under "FoxyProxy Standard." It will download and install itself onto Firefox automatically.

      Select "Add ons" from the Tools menu.

      Click on FoxyProxy's "Preferences." Click "Add New Proxy" from the list in the right-hand side of the window.

      Name the new proxy server and give a brief description of it.

      Select "Proxy Details" from the tab menu. Select either "Manual Proxy Configuration" or "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL."

      Input the proxy server's IP address and Port number for "Manual Proxy Configuration," and the URL for "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL."

      Click "OK."

      Select the proxy server from the list. Click "Close."

  • Be sure your version of FoxyProxy is updated to include the latest version of Firefox.
