How to Avoid Offensive Advertising on Search Result Windows
When the Internet was first developed, several malicious people tried to trick the average newcomer with fake websites. One that comes to mind was a pornographic site with a similar URL to the White House web page. Now, a new crop of offensive material has popped up in advertising in search result windows. Searching for toy handcuffs for your son may come along with advertisements for local sex shops. Large search engines, such as Google, have now put options in place for users to set their browsing preferences to remove these advertisements.

Log on to the Internet from your computer and visit Google.com.

Look in the upper right-hand corner of the screen for blue hyperlink text which reads "Search Settings". Click on this link. A new page will load.

Scroll down the page until you find the section which reads "SafeSearch Filtering". It is the third category on this page.

Select the radio button next to the words "Use strict filtering (Filter both explicit text and explicit images)".

Scroll to the bottom of the page. Look on the bottom right-hand side for a gray button which reads "Save Preferences". Click it. A small window will open saying "Your preferences have been saved".

If you would like a second wave of defense against offensive material, you can download a free program which will help block out offensive material. The program is called Anti-Porn 13.5.12.29 Portable. It blocks out porn and offensive language. Click the gray "Regular Download" button on the page. The page will reload and a counter in red will begin in the middle of the screen to count down when the download will begin. A new page will load. Type in the two "CAPTCHA" words in the middle of the screen and click "Download the file". The page will re-load. Click the black text in the middle of the screen which reads "Click here to download." A new window will open. It will ask if you want to want to open or save the file "Anti-Porn 13.5.12.29Portable.rar" Click the gray "Save" button. Follow all of the on-screen instructions. A window will eventually appear telling you that the installation of the program is complete. Click the gray "Finish" button on this screen.
