How to Make Shark Teeth Necklaces

Once you find a shark tooth on the beach, try using it for a necklace you can wear. Often people find shark teeth when they comb the beach for seashells. The teeth represent power, especially in South Pacific islands. Making your own shark tooth necklace will require patience because the tooth needs to be wrapped with jewelry wire to hold it into place and to keep it balanced on jewelry twine. Shark teeth necklaces make great souvenir gifts, and you can sell them at your local flea market, especially if you live in a beach area.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the shark tooth face down. Cut the jewelry wire 12 inches in length.

    • 2

Glue the wire to the back of your shark tooth. Place a small dab of hot glue on the back of the tooth toward its wide end. Press the wire into the glue and allow it to set.

    • 3

Wrap the jewelry wire around the tooth's base two or three times. The shark tooth's base is the wide end of the tooth that extends outward. You will need to wrap the wire under the extended ledge to keep the wire in place.

    • 4

Keep wrapping the wire around the tooth, using alternating patterns. Wrap the wire diagonally and then horizontally around the base of the tooth twice. To wrap the tooth diagonally, start underneath the tooth's base and wrap the wire over the top of the extended ledge and back down. Make sure you keep the wire wrapped tightly around the tooth to hold it in place.

    • 5

Place the wire through the back of the horizontal loops, which will prevent the wrapped wire from coming undone. Bend the wire down so that a loop extends from behind the shard tooth. Wrap the jewelry wire around the base of this loop to keep it in place. Use this loop to hold your shark tooth on a necklace.

    • 6

Finish wrapping the wire around the shark tooth. Once you run out of wire, simply tuck it down under the loops on the back of the shark tooth.

    • 7

Thread the shark tooth onto the jewelry cord. Add beads to decorate the necklace. Add a clasp to the end of the twine or simply tie the ends of the twine together to fit the necklace over your head.
