How to Delete a Block in MS Word 2003

If you're working on a document with text, tables, images and columns, you can delete the entire document or just parts of it in MS Word 2003. You don't have to use your mouse to select the content. Word lets you use shortcut keys on your keyboard to select the areas you want to delete as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the document you're updating in Microsoft Word 2003. To save a version of your work in case you ever want to restore the deleted content, select "File" and "Versions." Select "Save Now," type your comments in the "Save Version" dialog box and click "OK."

    • 2

Select the block of text you want to delete with your mouse. To select an entire paragraph, put your mouse cursor in the left-hand margin of the page and click until the paragraph is selected. Press "Delete" to delete the selected text.

    • 3

Alternatively, select text with your keyboard by pressing "F8" on your keyboard. Then use the left, right, up or down arrows on the keyboard to select the complete block of text and press the "Delete" key.

    • 4

Remove a block of text from a single cell in a table by placing your mouse cursor in the left side of the cell containing the text you want to remove and clicking. The entire cell will be selected. Press "Delete."

    • 5

Select an entire row within a table by moving your mouse cursor in the left margin next to the row until the cursor turns into an arrow and clicking. Press "Delete."

    • 6

Delete an entire column by moving your mouse cursor just above the column until the cursor becomes an arrow. Click to select the column and press the "Delete" key.

    • 7

Erase an entire table by placing your mouse cursor within the table. From the Table menu, select "Delete."

    • 8

Remove the entire content from your document by choosing "Select All" from the Edit menu and pressing the "Delete" key.

    • 9

Delete a block or blocks of text from one point in your document to the end by placing your cursor just before the text you want to delete. Press "F8," and then press "Ctrl" and "End" simultaneously to select the text (from the cursor to the end of the document). Press "Delete."
