How to Make a LEGO Stop Animation Film

Stop-motion animated Lego films are made up of a series of images shown quickly to give the Lego characters the appearance of movement. Although this process is not terribly hard it is extremely time consuming. A standard second of movie film has 24 individual picture frames. When performing stop-motion animation you will need to take this many images to make up a fluid second.

Things You'll Need

• Digital camera
• Tripod
• LEGOs
• Computer
• Video editor

Instructions

1. Position your Lego characters in the starting position.

2. Turn your camera on and place it on a tripod. You will need a solid tripod because the camera must not move at all while taking the images.

3. Take the first picture, then move the Lego characters ever so slightly. Take a second picture. The more you move the Lego characters, the faster it appears they are moving. Continue to take pictures until you have completed the scene.

4. Connect your digital camera to a computer. The images will automatically upload into your picture library.

5. Launch the video editor program on your system and import all of the images into the program. Click-and-drag every clip down into the timeline. Trim the files down to size so that 24 of them make up a second. This means every image is on screen for roughly .04 seconds.

6. Export the file by clicking "Edit" followed by "Export." Select the video format you want and click "OK." The Lego stop motion video will now export.
