Instructions

    • 1

Shut off your water at the source. Find the valve stem beneath your sink and turn it clockwise until it shuts off the water to your sink. If you do not have a valve underneath the sink, shut off the master supply for your house.

    • 2

Turn on the faucet at the sink to make sure no water comes out.

    • 3

Block your drain with a rag to make sure none of the small pieces that you will be taking apart drop down the drainpipe.

    • 4

Use a flathead screwdriver to pop off the top cap on each faucet handle. Use a Phillips screwdriver to take off the screw in the middle of each of the handles. Remove the handles by twisting them free. If the handles won't easily come off, put a rag around them to protect the finish and use pliers to twist them off.

    • 5

Remove the packing nut that is attached to the top of the stem. Remove the stem and check it thoroughly for damage. If you see or feel rough marks or nicks, this may be the source of your problem.

    • 6

Check the washer on the end of the stem for rough spots or scuffs on the rubber, as that may allow water to leak through.

    • 7

Check the O-rings on the inner part of the stem.

    • 8

Get a Delta water faucet repair kit if there is damage on any of these parts. Most home improvement stores, such as Home Depot or Lowes, carry Delta repair kits. Take the damaged piece with you to make sure you get a matching part in the replacement kit.

    • 9

      Replace any damaged parts.

    • 10

Reassemble the faucet. Tighten all screws and nuts until they are fully secure, but don't overtighten.

    • 11

Turn the water on under the sink, then turn on your faucet to test it for leaks. If you still have a problem, repeat the steps to find the faulty part.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set the parts in a straight line as you remove them, so you know the order in which you took them apart. Install them in the opposite order when you put the faucet back together.
