How to Convert Hard Ice Cream Into Soft Serve
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ... soft serve. If so, you're definitely not alone. But what to do if you don't happen to live on the same block as Mr. Softee? Fear not. You don't need much (not even one of those expensive machines) to churn out your favorite flavors. In fact, it''s so easy, the only headache you'll get is the one that happens after you've finished your cone. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Large plastic or metal mixing bowl
- Electric stand mixer (if possible)
- Hard wooden spoon
- One tub whipped topping (such as Cool Whip)
- One quart ice cream
- Plastic wrap
Instructions

1
Place a plastic or metallic mixing bowl into the freezer overnight. If you have an mixing bowl for an electric stand mixer, place that in the freezer.
-
2
Add one tub of Cool Whip to one quart of regular (hard) ice cream in the large mixing bowl. It's best to avoid using flavors with hard toppings (such as chocolate chips, marshmallows or nuts), since these toppings make it difficult to stir.

3
Mix thoroughly. If you don't have an electric mixer, you will need a strong wooden spoon.
-
4
Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and place it back in the freezer overnight.
-
5
Remove from freezer and enjoy. It won't be an exact replica of the frozen treats you chow down on at your local sundae shops, but in a pinch it mimics the texture and tastes great!
