How to Seal Oak Wood Pores
Finishing an oak floor takes several steps to do the job properly. Applying a penetrating sealer is one of those steps. This will seal oak wood pores and help protect the wood. You have two choices of sealers. One is a slow drying sealer, which is a good choice for people with no or a limited knowledge about applying a sealer. - Vacuum
- Wood sealer
- String mop
- Lamb's wool pad applicator
- Clean cloth
- No. 2 steel wool
- Electric polisher
- Tack cloth

Vacuum the floor to make sure you have all the dirt, dust and debris off the floor.

Apply the wood sealer in a generous amount to the wood. Using a clean string mop, lamb's wool pad applicator or a wide brush, apply the sealer going in the direction of the wood grain.

Wipe off any excess sealer with a clean, dry cloth. Leave this to dry for four to six hours.

Buff the wood's surface with a No. 2 steel wool either by hand or with an electric polisher. Vacuum the floor's surface again and use a tack cloth to remove all of the dust.

Apply a second coat, repeating steps 2 and 3.

Leave this to dry for eight hours or overnight.
