How to Block Emails in Outlook Express

Outlook Express is an email program that comes with Internet Explorer. It does not come equipped with spam filters, meaning that unwanted emails can find their way into your inbox. In order to block messages from spammers or any other addresses, Outlook Express allows you to create a Blocked Senders List.

  1. How to Block Emails in Outlook Express

      Click once on an email from the sender you would like to block.

      Click on the Message tab at the top of the program. The Message tab is located immediately to the left of the Help tab.

      Select "Block Sender" from the drop-down list. A window will pop up prompting you to confirm the block. Click "Yes."

      A second window will pop up confirming the action. Click "OK." The sender will be blocked and all messages from the sender will automatically be moved to your Deleted Items folder.

      To block senders manually or to block entire domains, you need to access the Blocked Senders List. Click the Tools tab at the top of the program, then scroll down and click "Message Rules." From the list that appears, select the Block Senders List. Use the Add, Modify or Remove tabs to edit the Blocked Senders List settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Senders can be removed from the blocked list via the Blocked Senders List.

  • Consider using a spam filter as a way to eliminate unwanted messages.

  • Use caution when blocking entire domains. You may accidentally prevent yourself from receiving wanted messages.
