They make an easy decorator touch to add focal points to a room, and even as a decor motif in the bedroom. Create rotating displays to highlight different themes of a plate collection. Instructions

    • 1

Create a pattern of plates above the headboard. Follow the line of the headboard to make a bedroom plate decor. Place the plates high enough so they are above the head of the tallest person who sits on the bed. Use a pencil to mark where you want the center of each plate.

For example: Use seven plates. Measure the headboard's width and then measure half that width on the wall above it to place the first plate in the center. Measure to put the plates at regular intervals, such as 18 inches from the center of one plate to the center of the next.

Make a pencil mark for the location of each plate. Put up the self-adhesive picture hooks (remove the adhesive back and press to the wall). Put the spring-plate holders on each plate. These adjust to hold the back of the plate securely for display. Stretch each spring and attach the hooks. Hang the plates and stand back to check the effect. Straighten the plates if needed.

    • 2

Hang plates around the dresser mirror. Make a frame shape, such as three plates on top, and three on each side of the mirror. Measure to space the plates evenly, and use picture-hanging hooks. Use spring-plate hangers to hold the plates.

    • 3

Use small plates under round candles on the dresser and nightstands. Round candles look good this way. Arrange potpourri on plates to add to the country cottage look and provide a sweet scent in the bedroom and closet.

    • 4

Use some miniature plates on the dresser to hold rings and earrings.

    • 5

Add a display case of plates at a focal point in the room. Change the display every season to keep the look of the room fresh. Coordinate the plate colors and bedding colors for a well-designed look.

    • 6

Put a small plate of potpourri and one with a candle on it in the master bath to continue the theme.

Tips & Warnings

  • Group the plates by themes (country scenes, flowers, animals) or color for the bedroom collectibles display.

  • Don't leave candles burning unattended, and keep them away from curtains, lampshades and other flammable materials.
