How to Use Avocado For Better Hair and Skin

Natural, at-home remedies are effective, safe and relatively inexpensive. While avocado has numerous benefits for your body (e.g., helps lower cholesterol and regulate blood pressure), it is also an anti-oxidant. Avocado is a great conditioner and moisturizer. Using avocado on your hair will help deep condition it and prevent breakage and dryness, while using avocado on your skin will leave it moisturized and glowing. Using this home remedy instead of expensive hair or face masks is also friendly on your wallet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Hair Mask

    • 1

To begin, peel and cut an avocado.

    • 2

Put half of it in a bowl and add 1 to 2 tablespoons (depending on the length of your hair) of olive oil.

    • 3

Mash up the avocado with a fork and mix in the olive oil until you have a paste.

    • 4

Divide your hair into sections. For example, clip your hair up at the top of your head, and gradually work your way up when applying the hair mask.

    • 5

Using your hands, take little scoops of the paste. Smooth it onto each section of your hair, paying special attention to the ends (which is where most damage and dryness occurs).

    • 6

Once you have applied the paste to all of your hair, use any extra paste and apply it to your scalp. It will moisturize your scalp as well, preventing irritation, dryness and dandruff.

    • 7

You may want to use a showercap, bandana or large hair clip to keep your hair out of your face and also to ensure that the mixture does not drip everywhere.

    • 8

Leave the avocado in your hair for 30 to 45 minutes.

    • 9

To wash it out, rinse your hair with warm water until the avocado is gone and then shampoo, condition and style as usual. Your hair will be silky, soft and shiny.

    Face Mask

    • 10

Rinse your face with warm water.

    • 11

      Peel and cut the avocado.

    • 12

Mash the mixture with a fork until it becomes a paste.

    • 13

Pull your hair back with a hair clip or bandana and apply the mixture all over your face. Make sure you are careful around the eye area as you do not want the mixture to go into your eyes.

    • 14

Leave the mask on for about 15 minutes.

    • 15

Rinse it off with warm water and if you choose, you can also use your daily facial cleanser, although it is not necessary. Your skin will be soft, moisturized and clean.

Tips & Warnings

  • Both the hair mask and face mask are most effective when used on a weekly basis for continuous and better results.

  • Make sure that you are not allergic to avocados or olive oil before applying either of these masks.
