How to Reboot the XBox

The Xbox 360 is a next generation gaming device and media player. It can display movies, play games, and stream content (audio or video) while running the Xbox interface in the background. This allows you to keep track of friends that are online and receive and send messages while you do any of the things listed. Sometimes, you may need to reboot your Xbox because it has frozen, or at the request of the machine. Reboots are usually required after firmware updates. Unless you have automatic reboot enabled, they must be completed manually.

  • Press the large "Power" button on the right side of the Xbox to turn the Xbox off. It is to the right of the disc tray.

  • Unplug the AC adapter from the back of the Xbox and from the wall. Wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

  • Press the "Power" button to turn the Xbox back on.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also reboot your Xbox by holding the "Guide" button on the controller until you see the "Turn off Xbox" option. After the machine shuts off, hold the "Guide" button again to turn the Xbox back on.
