Comcast high speed Internet is a cable-based service that uses a cable modem to transmit the Internet signal from Comcast to your computer or other Internet capable device such as the Xbox. Using an Ethernet cable, you can hook up the Xbox to the Comcast cable modem to connect to Xbox Live, which is the online multiplayer gaming service used by all Xbox games with online capabilities. Other noteworthy Xbox Live features include access to downloadable content and streaming media services such as Netflix and Listen.FM.

Step 1

Turn the Xbox off. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of the Xbox. Insert the opposite end of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet/Internet" port on the back of the Comcast modem.

Step 2

Turn the Xbox on. Scroll to the "My Xbox" tab, select "System Settings" and select "Network Settings."

Step 3

Select "Test Xbox Live Connection" and the Xbox will test the Internet connection. If a new Xbox Live update is available, you will be prompted to update before connecting to Xbox Live.
