How to Calculate International Shipping Costs
Today, it is easier than ever to calculate postage for international shipping with the United States Post Office. Anyone with computer access can log on to the Postal Service website and calculate shipping costs with a few simple steps. For those who do not feel comfortable calculating postage online, go to a local post office branch for help in determining the cost of mailing that international package. Gather information about the package and where it will be shipped. Knowing the package type and the intended destination of the package prior to calculating postage will make the process go smoothly.

Log on to the United States Postal Service website and open the Postage Price Calculator tab. The USPS website is located at http://www.usps.com.

Select the destination to which the package will be shipped from the drop down menu provided on the website.

Select the package type. You can choose to ship using Flat Rate Boxes or traditional mail. Flat Rate boxes come in different sizes, and anything that fits in the package mails for a set price. Traditional mail includes postcards, letters, large envelopes, packages, and large packages.

After selecting the package type, you will be prompted to enter the weight of the items being mailed. Type in the weight and click the "Continue" button. You will be taken to a chart that details how much postage will cost based on the type of mail service you choose. For example, choosing between First Class, Express, and Priority mail will change how much shipping costs.
