How to Use Peroxide to Clean Carpet
Sometimes keeping a carpet clean can feel like a no-win situation, especially if you have young children or pets. But before you go out and purchase expensive commercial carpet stain removers, consider using a product that you may already have in your medicine cabinet. Hydrogen peroxide has many purposes in the household and carpet-cleaning is one of them. In fact, a small amount of hydrogen peroxide applied to a carpet can clean up a stain in only a few hours. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

-
1
Blot up the stain as soon as it occurs, using a clean white cloth.
-
2
Pour a small amount of club soda directly onto the stain so it won't set. Continue blotting until no more of the stain will lift.
-
-
3
Open a bottle of 3 percent peroxide and pour it over the stain. Only use enough to cover the stain completely. You do not have to saturate the carpet with the peroxide.
-
4
Allow the peroxide to sit on the carpet for approximately two hours. The peroxide needs time to dissolve the stain. Taking it off too soon will not produce a desired result.
-
5
Blot the stain again with a clean white cloth after the two-hour waiting period. Continue blotting until the stain completely dissolves. Allow the stain-treated area to air-dry.

Tips & Warnings
Boost the carpet-cleaning effects of peroxide by adding baking soda. Mix a solution of 30 percent peroxide to 70 percent water in a bowl. Add 1/2 tsp. of baking soda and pour it on the stain.
Do not apply the 3 percent peroxide to your carpet without performing a spot test first. Choose an inconspicuous area of carpet and pour a small amount of peroxide on to it. If the dye fades, do not use the peroxide on your carpet.
