How to Replace Spear Gun Tubing
The tubing, or "bands", are the power behind the spear on a speargun. They are subject to wear and damage, and therefore require periodic replacement. User construction and replacement of the bands is not only more economical, it also allows the user to "tune" the gun to his or her preferences, or to the local hunting environment.
While there are many types of spearguns, including those made of wood, or metal tubing, that can include two or three bands, the principles described apply to all but the pneumatic type.
Things You'll Need

- 2 - Needle nose pliers
- Wishbone bridle

- Band tying line
Instructions

1
Cut the bulk latex tubing to the proper length for your gun (see manufacturer for proper diameter and length of tubing for your gun model).
-
2
Thread the tubing, or "band", through the muzzle of the gun.
Some muzzles require the band to be snapped into place through a slot. Grab the band on both sides to stretch and pull the band into place. Silicone spray may be used as a lubricant.
Be sure that the band is centered on the muzzle.

Place the one of the beads on the wishbone bridle into the wishbone insertion tool. Lubricate both the bead and the end of the band with silicone spray. Use the tool to push the bead into the end of the band. Remove the tool, leaving the bead inside about one half inch from the end of the band. Repeat this process with the remaining bead and the other end of the band.

4
Using the band tying line, tie a constrictor knot between the bead and the end of the band. To make the knot as tight as possible, grab the ends of the line with the needle nose pliers and pull as hard as you can. Trim the ends of the tying line to about one quarter-inch, and melt them with the matches or lighter. Turn the band over, and tie another constrictor knot at the same point on the band. Use the same procedure as the first knot.

Tips & Warnings
European style muzzles may require special adapters for using bulk latex tubing.
Do not exceed the band length and diameter parameters set by the manufacturer for the make and model of your gun.
Always replace the wishbone bridle when replacing the band.
Follow manufacturer's recommendations for band tying line.
