How to Run a Basketball Offense: Inbound - Break the Press

After an opponent's basket, you have 10 seconds to inbound the ball and get it past half court. With a full court press in your face, this can be difficult.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basketballs
  • Basketballs
  1. Step 1

    Set the offense: Give the inbounding job to one of the forwards, place the other near half court along with the center, and put the two guards on either side of the basket.

  2. Step 2

    Have the inbounder tap the ball to begin play.

  3. Step 3

    Instruct the center and forward to fake toward the ball to loosen their defenders, then dart over half court.

  4. Step 4

    Loop the center back across half court and into the middle circle, facing the inbounder.

  5. Step 5

    Have the first guard screen the second.

  6. Step 6

    Have the second guard fake up court, then dart toward the inbounder for the pass.

  7. Step 7

    Roll the first guard off the screen and watch for a pass.

  8. Step 8

    Inbound to either guard.

  9. Step 9

    Move the inbounder behind the guards.

  10. Step 10

    Dribble aggressively around defenders, passing between the two guards and the inbounding forward as necessary.

  11. Step 11

    Move the ball quickly beyond half court.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the press is tight and the players get stuck, pass to your tall man ' the center at half court.
  • Keep the play quick or you'll risk a violation.
