How to Put an AGP 2 Card Into an AGP 1 Slot
AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) 2x cards are backwards compatible with AGP 1x slots. AGP 2x cards are usually very old types of graphic cards. Also, the AGP technology is becoming obsolete; most newer motherboards do not come with AGP ports. Instead, newer motherboards support the new PCI Express x16 technology, which offers much higher data transfer rates than any AGP connections. However, connecting an AGP 2x card to an AGP 1x slot is the same exact process as connecting an AGP 1x card to an AGP 1x slot.

1
Unscrew the screws that are holding the side panels up on the back of your computer. Remove the side panels.
-
2
Locate the AGP 1x slot. The AGP 1x slot is situated near the left/center of the case and is a brown color (not white or beige). For a picture, see the link in the Resources section below.
-
-
3
Remove the expansion slot cover from the back of your computer to make an opening for the AGP card when it is installed (see picture in the second Resource below).
-
4
Take the AGP 2x card and lower it into the AGP 1x slot. Firmly push the card into the slot, as the fit is rather tight.
-
5
Take the side panels and attach them back to the computer case. Replace the screws holding the side panels up.
-
6
Turn on your computer and connect your monitor to the AGP 2x card through the expansion slot on the back of the computer. The monitor should be working at this point.
