How to Clean Salt From Winter Boots

Winter can be hard on your footwear, especially if you walk on roads or sidewalks that have been treated with salt to help melt snow and ice. The white salt rings that stain your winter boots are not only unsightly but may cause damage if you don't clean them off. One way to clean salt from winter boots is by using a simple mixture made from items you probably have in your home.

Things You'll Need

• 1/2 cup white vinegar
• 1/2 cup water
• Bowl
• Clean rags
• Towel

Instructions

1. Pour the vinegar and water into a bowl. Dip a piece of the rag into the bowl and let it get wet.

2. Take a boot and dab at the salt stains with the wet part of the rag.

3. Wet part of another rag with clean water. Dab it gently over the area of the boot you just cleaned.

4. Wipe a clean, dry towel over the dampened areas on the boot.

5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 with the other boot in the pair.

6. Let the boots dry in a place that is not close to direct heat. This will help to keep your boots from cracking.
