ActiveX is Microsoft's component control technology. Basically, it allows multiple components to communicate with each other and run as one application. For the average user, ActiveX is simply something that many websites require to take advantage of all of their features. It is important to make sure that you have the most recent version installed in your computer.

Step 1

The easiest way to update ActiveX is to simply open a page the requires it and to click the "Install ActiveX" button on the top right-hand side of the screen. In most cases, there is nothing else the user must do to complete the update other than restarting the web browser.

Step 2

Once the installation has completed, your browser should restart and reload the page or pages you previously had open, and you should be able to take advantage of all the content that requires ActiveX. If, for whatever reason, this has not worked, there are few things you can do to fix the problem.

Step 3

The first and simplest is to simply reinstall the browser. This is by far the fastest way to solve the problem, particularly if you are using Internet Explorer. Once you have erased and reinstalled the browser you should be able to navigate to a site that requires ActiveX and install the latest version.

Step 4

An alternative to this is to remove ActiveX from your machine. This, however, is a little more involved and can cause complications, especially if you use Internet Explorer. To uninstall ActiveX from your computer go to the Control Panel and open the Add/Remove Programs menu. Find ActiveX on the list and click to uninstall. Then navigate to a site that requires ActiveX and install the latest version. Again, this method is not recommended as it can lead to complications.
