How to Find Recent Downloads on a Mac Computer

If you frequently download items from the Web onto your Mac, you may not be exactly sure how to locate them after you close the window of queuing downloads. Recently downloaded files are stored in your computer's Downloads folder after completion. The default Downloads folder can be easily located on your hard drive and, if you wish, you can even change where downloads are sent to by default.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on "Macintosh HD" on your desktop or the "Finder" application in your Dock. Under "Places," select the account user (which should be your own name) listed directly under Desktop.

    • 2

Open the Downloads folder from the account user's folders. This is the folder where all recent web downloads are automatically saved. Move or delete files from this folder at your discretion.

    • 3

Change default download settings (if desired) in the Safari Web browser by choosing "Preferences" from the Safari menu and selecting the "General" tab within the dialog window. Next to "Save downloaded files to," you can opt to have files downloaded from the web sent to an alternative folder (like the Desktop) instead of the Downloads folder by default.
